We are Barbara Lovell and Hall Stuart-Lovell, a mother and daughter editing team in business together since 1991. We both have graduate degrees in English and have taught at the college level. We specialize in professional level academic and scientific editing, working with professors and graduate students in a wide variety of disciplines.
We work on almost any type of professional or pre-professional academic or scientific writing. Whether it's a journal article that needs fine tuning, a dissertation that needs to be whipped into shape or just pre-press copy that needs meticulous proofreading, we're there to work with you through the process. We also work with students and professors for whom English is not a native language, helping them with the difficult task of competing against native English speakers for those important publication credits.
Since 1991, we have worked with the professors, graduate students, and scientists in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Hall has relocated to the west coast, so we are operating much of our business over the Internet. Using electronic file transfer, faxes, e-mail, telephones, andwhen emergency strikesovernight shipping, we can provide editorial services anywhere in the country practically faster than we could using old-fashioned pick up and delivery. International work also becomes a real possibility, though costs are somewhat greater and turn around times somewhat longer.
Choose Lovell & Lovell Editing because we have the education, intelligence, and experience necessary to handle graduate and professional level writing. With all due respect to our colleagues, it takes more than an undergraduate degree in English and a basic command of grammar to be able to edit theses, dissertations, and journal articles.
Usually the first step is for us to review the project. Send us an e-mail describing the project, the deadline, the intended audience. For many of our clients, an important first question is how much our services will cost. Our hourly rates are $50 per hour for editing and $75 per hour for more computer intensive services (typesetting, layout, web page preparation, etc.). The problem with stating an hourly rate, however, is that you have no way of knowing what we can do in an hour. Similarly, without seeing your work, it is practically impossible for us to give you a reliable estimate of how long your job will take. Our preferred solution is to see what you have written and edit a sample of it for you. Based on that sample, we will give you an estimate of how many hours of editing the job requires. Nothing is binding until you give us the go ahead to do the work.
